Sorry for the late reply – been busy at work. 
Fortunately, they decided to remove that average criteria – yes, I figured doing some heavy coding might have to be involved (was hoping that would be the last resort – 7 groups, 3 fields per each group, plus going through calculating up to 100,000 records – or more depending on how many detail values are in multiple groups, and the top group header that required distinct totals! – that had to be put into crosstab-like format on the SQL end… That’s a lot of calculating).
